The following comes from our current President, John W. Clough, who graciously provided the accompanying photographs.

George Marston Clough, brother of Capt. Benjamin Clough, operated the farm in Monmouth ME, built by their grandfather Benjamin5. Grace, Mary Elizabeth and Roger remained at the Norris Hill location.

Emery Augustus Clough left the farm and moved to California at age 32.

Emery Augustus started as a laborer, working in Tustin, Beaumont, and Banning before moving to Escalon where he became a successful grower and rancher. By 1910, he was married to Emma Belle Dyke. They were charter members of the Presbyterian church of Escalon.

“Gus” wrote hundreds of letters to his sisters in Monmouth over a 25 year period. I have these letters and have a large task ahead to process them all into a story.
