Fred A Clough Sr (Augustus, Josiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Thomas 3-2, John), 83, of Springfield, VT., and a former prominent member of the Lewiston- Auburn (ME) business community, died Sunday at his home following a long illness.
Born October 1889, at Lewiston, he was the advertising manager of the Lewiston Evening Journal before it combined with the Lewiston Daily Sun in 1926.
In the mid-30’s, he served a term on the Auburn City Council. He was also involved in the insurance business, and for a time operated a hotel at Mount Vernon.
Clough was also a musician, serving as director for the choir at the High Street Congregational Church during the 1920’s, and later holding a similar position at Friend’s Church at Winthrop Center.
He is survived by his widow, the former Regis Keith; two sons, Fred Augustus Clough Jr of Bethel and Philip James Clough of Cape Elizabeth; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Mendall of Sidney; and a sister, Mrs. Adna Hodgkins of South Lewiston.
