In 1635 John Clough
To Boston fled
With the fair Jane by his side.
Since George, the king,
Did not approve of
The way they prayed behind his back.
They tried so hard
In Charlestown near.
Just off the sound so loud and clear.
But Boston proved
An enemy.
So Watertown did they open next.
It was, at least they thought, their best.
They opted to serve
In a greener field
In Salisbury’s lovely country town.
So John built a church.
Which was to be
The cornerstone of his dynasty.
The little ones
Came and graced
The paths lead
To fame’s base.
We pray over the graves
Of those we bow to.
And give thanks for the right
To share with the
Love we bear to.
