As we begin a new year of activity for the society I wish to first thank the out-going officers and Board members for their years of service. David Lewis served for five years in his third term as President. Bev “Cluffe” Landry who has served in many ways recently served on the nominating committee and as Member-at-Large. Ryan Weitz served as historian and assisted with the website, and his mother Melanie served as Secretary and Member-at Large. Thank you all.
As a registered 501-c-7 organization we are required to be a “face-to face” society and hold regular annual meetings. We need interested and willing members to serve as officers or Board members to keep the society running and in compliance with regulations. Currently our most urgent need is for a member to serve as Secretary. This obviously requires time and effort on the part of elected officers. Too often we hear “please volunteer to fill this position. You won’t have to do anything”. The organization cannot run efficiently with members who sign up to do nothing. I have found it to be true that the more I put into any activity, the more I get out. A number of Board positions are filled with dedicated members who have served for many years or decades. There are several occupied positions that would more than welcome a break from serving. The term of office is one year and there are no term limits. Do not hesitate to “Stand” for any of the Board positions that may interest you. I hope the membership will give thoughtful consideration to participate in the running of JCGS. We have an urgent need for your help!
Finally I wish to thank all Board members for their interest and commitment to serving. Thanks to our new Webmaster Fred Clough who has already spent countless hours developing a new improved website. Thanks also to Board members who have taken on increased responsibility or new positions.
